Anthology of Uncertainty started in 2024 as a curatorial residency at La maison de l’ours Paris. Its initial focus lay in the re-emergence of decolonial conversations in Europe after February 24, 2022, and in how Ukraine’s cultural voice had long existed outside dominant narratives. The project recognised the full-scale invasion not as a sudden rupture, but as a continuation of historical pressure, disinformation, and erasure. Against this background, Anthology of Uncertainty began as a space to rethink how Ukrainians experience instability – politically, socially and personally – and how this condition shapes both artistic and everyday life.
Depending on the context and topic, different forms of expression call for different techniques. The project includes film screenings, artist talks, presentations, public discussions, a performance conference, workshops, and research formats, which serve as a sort of ‘umbrella’ for gathering experiences and materials. These formats allow working with personal stories, memories, and collective experiences so that people can talk about their own states of uncertainty and find common ground in their experiences. The project develops the final form together with the participants, spaces, and themes that arise in the process.
The 2025 season aimed to define the limits of uncertainty in a deeper time frame and more personally to representatives of various social groups that go beyond the Ukrainian question. In the following seasons, uncertainty will be looked at from different perspectives and in collaboration with actors from various cultural fields.
